The Solana Story · Module 6 · 2025 to 2026 · 35 min

In 2025 Solana set a new record, gained a regulated fund in the United States and worked on big upgrades, in a market that kept rising and falling sharply. Recent dates are the most likely to need checking.

What you will learn

The lessons

Lesson 1: A new record

In January 2025 a memecoin linked to the US president was launched on Solana, bringing a burst of trading to the network. SOL reached a record of close to $295 that month.

The record did not last. SOL fell back through 2025, as the wider market went through sharp swings. Higher traffic also showed the network could handle large volumes, which earlier versions would have struggled with.

As with Bitcoin, a record high only shows where the price has been. It says nothing about where it goes next.

Remember: Every record is eventually followed by something. Nobody can say in advance what.

Lesson 2: Funds and upgrades

In late October 2025 the first US exchange-traded funds that hold Solana, or ETFs, began trading. As with the Bitcoin and Ether funds you met earlier, they let people get exposure through an ordinary investment account without holding coins themselves.

In September 2025 Solana’s validators voted to approve a major change to how they agree on blocks, known as Alpenglow. It went live on the main network on 21 October 2026. Anza, the team that built it, says it cuts the time for a transaction to become final from about 13 seconds to roughly 150 milliseconds. That is the stated target: independent measurements had not yet been published when this lesson was updated, and some analysts put the old time nearer 6 seconds.

Firedancer, the second independent validator program, began running on the main network. It is a sign of the network maturing, because it makes it less dependent on any single piece of software.

Remember: Funds make Solana easier to buy. Upgrades aim to make it faster and sturdier.

Lesson 3: What to watch

For any network, three questions are worth asking. Does it stay up? Is the activity real, or just speculation? And is control spread across many validators and developers, or held by a few?

Solana’s record on staying up has been much better since early 2024. Its activity includes real payments, trading and apps, alongside a large amount of speculation. And, like all of these networks, it is still debated how decentralised it really is.

Dates for 2025 and 2026 events are recent and can be revised, so check an up-to-date source before relying on them, and look at our Markets page for current prices. This is education, not financial advice.

Remember: Ask whether it stays up, whether the activity is real and who holds control.

Do it yourself

Build a one-page timeline of Solana using the five key dates in this track that matter most to you. Next to each, write one sentence on what it changed, and mark any date you would want to double-check before telling someone else.
